CHARLES WESTLAKE, Chairman
A Westcountry man through and through, Charles was born into a musical farming family. He’s been singing ever since he can remember, along with his family’s singing group.
In 1981 he moved to Kingsbridge where he joined the Kingsbridge Singers, later to become The Stanborough Chorus.
From then on he sang leading Tenor roles in Messiah, Elijah and many other great works. In spite of his busy life as a farmer he found time to take part in singing competitions in the Westcountry, winning many trophies and Championships, having been trained by voice coach, Rosemary Cole.
In 2006 Charles formed the Tamar Valley Male Voice Choir, becoming its Chairman, the position he still holds. In these past 20 years the Choir has travelled the length and breadth of the UK, often singing with other male voice choirs, and raising many thousands of pounds for charity. Two European trips saw the Choir forming strong and lasting bonds with a Czech Children’s Choir, Jerabinka, and the professionals of their Music School.
Charles has always been proud of the strong ‘family atmosphere’ in the Choir and hopes that new members will join to enjoy the camaraderie that is so obviously part of singing in Tamar Valley Male Voice Choir.
